Review: This book is about a girl who goes to middle school .But one day a girl came up to her and said that I’m going to beat you up .And this was because she was jealous that that girl was a princess. She said that she heard it from her dad talking to the girls uncle. My favourite part was when the girl was about to beat her up and a limousine which had a girl in it who was the princess’s sister came to pick her up.This story made me smile.

Review: Serena van der Woodsen just arrived back from boarding school and there are nasty rumours going around about her. Her old best friend Blair won’t even talk to her and everyone hates her now. Except Dan Humpherey. Dan has always admired Serena, and Dan’s friend Vanessa was going to make a movie. Ironically Dan was the lead male and Serena wanted to be the lead but Vanessa chose this other girl instead, even though Serena was better. The truth was, Vanessa didn’t just want to see Dan drool over Serena. Blair was holding this ball, and Serena was invited but didn’t want to go. So, she hung out with Vanessa and Dan. When Dan has to go save his little sister from the ball, Serena goes with him. Will they get together? Read the book to find out! The TV show Gossip girl is based on the books, and I have watched a couple episodes and it is nothing like the book. Basically, the only thing that is the same is the characters. But this was a great book!

Review of “Trapped in Ice”, written by Eric Walters

Reviewed by: Sarah
Review: One trapped ship. Two children. The unforgiving Arctic. Helen Kiruk, her little brother Michael, and her mother, the seamstress, are part of the Canadian Arctic Expedition that starts in 1913. They set sail on the Karluk, a ship that is hardly fit for the frigid temperatures and freezing waters. Caught in an early freeze up, the ship is trapped in ice. For Helen, her family, and the crew of the ship, the voyage has come to an end. There is no way out of the ice, and the Karluk is bound to sink. As the ship becomes weaker and weaker, it is obvious that everyone will have to abandon the Karluk. Out on the ice, with spring coming quickly and the melting of the very ice that is keeping everyone afloat, a harrowing journey to land is the only thing left that may keep Helen and her friends from perishing on the ice.

Review of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, written by J.K. Rowling

Reviewed by: Flora
Review: The main character is Harry Potter. He lives with his cousin Dudley, his aunt Petunia and his uncle Vernon. (His parents are dead because of who-shall-not-be-named.) Also Harry is famous. One of the other main characters is Hermione Granger. She is the best at all of the subjects at Hogwarts (her parents are Muggles, as in not-wizards). And last but not least there is Ron Weasley. He has five older brothers, two of them have left Hogwarts already and he has a younger sister who will go to Hogwarts next year.
The main ideas in the book are about growing up, making friends and enemies, fixing problems, winning/losing, having fun.
In my opinion, this book was AMAZING. It was soooo hard to put down. There were some small adventure scenes or parts that you wouldn’t know what would happen next that would grab you and pull you in and you couldn’t get out. It was like water going over you and you can’t get out. This book made me think about what it would be like if I was at Hogwarts.

Review of “Hattie Big Sky”, written by Kirby Larson

Reviewed by: Sarah
Review: In the December of 1918, sixteen year-old Hattie Inez Brooks, has just made the biggest decision of her life. She has accepted her deceased uncle’s wish for her to move onto his homestead near Vida, Montana. Hattie has always been Hattie-Here-and-There, bouncing from relative to relative, because she was orphaned at a young age. She sees this new homesteading opportunity as a place for her to truly belong to somewhere, somewhere where she doesn’t feel like a third wheel. In January, Hattie sets out for Vida, to begin her new life. There, she meets Perilee and her husband Karl, who become her biggest helpers in her new life of homesteading. They are kind, peaceful people who are always quick to help Hattie in her times of need. Even though Hattie’s first year of homesteading is sometimes heartbreaking, she finds loving friends and family with Perilee Mueller and her other caring neighbors. Hattie Big Sky is a book with heart, full of the joy of homesteading ,as well as the back-breaking work that comes along with it. Though, it also tells of German racism in WWI, a time when anyone or anything German was looked down upon. Mostly, however, it is a book about friends being there and never thinking twice about giving their time to help you.
